How to Bring Your Apple Health Data Together With Your Bank and Nutrition Data

A step-by-step guide to putting your iPhone's health data, your food diary, and your bank statements in one history, without counting anything twice.

Your iPhone knows how you slept and how far you walked. Your food diary knows what you ate. Your bank knows where your money went. Each of them answers its own questions well, and none of them can answer a question that spans two: do you sleep worse in weeks you eat later, or spend more in weeks you sleep less?

This guide puts all three in one place in Kaizora, in about half an hour, with each file read on your own device.

What You’ll Need

  • An iPhone with the Health app, and a computer or tablet to import on (Kaizora runs in the browser; its iPhone app is coming).
  • Your food diary, if you keep one. Kaizora imports Cronometer directly; foods logged in other apps that write to Apple Health come in with your Apple Health export.
  • Your bank’s CSV statements: one file per account.

Step 1: Import Your Food Diary First

Order matters. Many apps write to Apple Health, so the same meal can be in your Cronometer export and your Apple Health export. Once you’ve imported Cronometer directly, Kaizora skips Cronometer’s copies inside Apple Health, so each meal comes in once. (It does the same for Withings, if you use a Withings scale.)

On cronometer.com, go to Settings › Account › Export Data and download Food & Recipe Entries (servings.csv). In Kaizora, open Data Sources and import it as Cronometer Servings. Each food arrives with its nutrients on your Nutrition page. Importing From Cronometer has the details.

Step 2: Export and Import Apple Health

On your iPhone, open Health, tap your picture, then Export All Health Data. Save the export.zip where your computer can reach it, such as iCloud Drive or AirDrop to a Mac.

In Kaizora, import it as Apple Health Export. An export can be hundreds of megabytes; it’s read a piece at a time in your browser, so it doesn’t matter. In it come your body measurements and vitals, blood pressure readings, sleep with its stages, workouts, steps, and mindful minutes, along with foods from other apps that write to Health. Importing From Apple Health lists everything.

Your phone and your watch often both count your steps. Kaizora’s daily total takes the device with the largest count, so a walk isn’t counted twice.

Step 3: Add Your Bank Accounts

On the Finances page, add each account: its name and its type (such as checking or credit card). Then, on your bank’s website, download each account’s transactions as CSV.

Import each file as Bank Statement (CSV). Because every bank lays out its file differently, Kaizora shows you the first rows and asks which account it is and which columns hold the date, description, and amount, then previews the result before importing. Importing Bank Statements walks through it.

Set categories as you go: an imported transaction’s category is always yours to change, right in the table, and importing again keeps it.

Step 4: Look at It Together

Now everything sits on one timeline.

  • Timeline shows a day as it happened: last night’s sleep, this morning’s weight, lunch, a workout, the afternoon’s purchases.
  • Domain pages (Sleep, Nutrition, Activity, Finances) each chart their own data, with a card for every metric.
  • Correlations charts up to five metrics together, each scaled to its own range, day by day or week by week: Time Asleep against Dietary Caffeine, Dietary Energy against Weight, or Net Cash Flow against Exercise Sessions. See Comparing Metrics.
  • Habits follow targets across all of it, like at least 7 hours asleep a night or at most 2,000 kcal a day. See Habits.

A word of caution: two lines moving together don’t show that one causes the other. A busy month can mean less sleep and more takeout. Use what you see as a question to look into, not an answer.

What Money Looks Like Today

Your transactions are values of Net Cash Flow (money in less money out) and your balances of Net Worth, both in your currency, converted at the US Treasury’s exchange rates for each date. Spending by category isn’t a metric of its own yet, so for now you can see your categories in the Finances table, and chart overall cash flow against your other metrics.

Keeping It Up to Date

None of these sources can sync with a website on their own today, so update by exporting again and importing the newer file, every week or month. Readings you already have are updated in place, never duplicated, and only new ones are added. A live connection to Withings is coming, and reading Apple Health directly will come with Kaizora’s iPhone app.

Your Data Stays Yours

Each file is read in your browser and turned into rows there; only those rows reach your account, and the database itself makes sure no other account can read them. The file itself is never uploaded or kept. Kaizora has no ads and never sells your data. See Your Data and Privacy.
