Add Your Devices
Keep track of what measured each value, such as a scale or a watch, so you can tell when two devices disagree or an update changed one.
Updated
A device is whatever measured a value: a scale, a blood pressure monitor, a watch, an air quality monitor, a camera. It’s separate from how the value arrived: a weight read off your scale and typed in is manual, with the scale as its device.
Add a Device
- Open Devices, from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, and choose Add device. Or search for Add device… from anywhere.
- Give it a Name that tells it apart, such as “Bathroom scale”.
- If you like, add its Make, Model, and Serial Number.
- Under Measures, choose the metrics it measures. When you log one of them, the device is offered; a device that lists nothing is offered for every metric.
- Choose Add.
Devices Added for You
Any import or sync that names a device adds it: a watch or a phone in Apple Health, a Withings scale, the camera that took your photos, or the name you give an Aranet4. You can edit them like your own.
Software Versions
An update can change a device’s readings. Open the device’s … menu and choose See software version history, then Add version with the Version and the date it’s From. The Devices table shows each device’s current version.
Use Devices
- When you log a value, choose its Device.
- On a metric’s chart, choose Break down by, then Device, to see two scales side by side. See Change a Chart’s Range, Grouping, and Breakdown.
- In a data table, select several values you logged and choose Change device to set it for all of them at once.
Archive or Delete
Both are in the device’s … menu on Devices, or in a selection’s menu for several at once:
- Archive a device you no longer use: it’s no longer offered, and stays on the values it measured. Show archived lists it again, and Unarchive brings it back.
- Delete removes the device after you confirm, saying how many values it measured. Those values stay, with no device.
Deleting a source’s data keeps the devices it added.
