Log and Read Your Sleep

Log a night or a nap by hand, see each stage and your sleep scores on the Sleep page, and understand how a night is put together.

Updated

Most people’s sleep comes in from a watch or a ring through Apple Health, but you can log it yourself too. Either way, it’s on Health › Sleep.

Log a Night or a Nap

  1. Choose Log, then Time Asleep (or Time in Bed, to record when you went to bed and got up).
  2. Set the Start and the End.
  3. Choose Log.

A wearable records more: spans of time in bed, asleep, awake, and in light, deep, and REM sleep, which you can log the same way, one span at a time. A sleep counts toward the day it ends, so a night belongs to the morning you wake.

What the Sleep Page Shows

  • At the top: the Kaizora Sleep Score and the Sleep Regularity Index, then your latest sleep’s total sleep time and sleep efficiency, a card each. Each card opens its metric’s page.
  • Sleep Stages: each day’s time in each stage and awake in bed, stacked.
  • History: each sleep as one line, however many spans it’s made of, with its length and its stages, such as “REM 1 h 30 min”. Its … menu has See sleep, Edit for each span, and Delete, which removes the whole sleep.
  • Metrics: every sleep metric you have, such as sleep onset latency or the apnea–hypopnea index from a sleep study.

How a Sleep Is Put Together

Spans less than an hour apart are one sleep, naps included. For each sleep, Kaizora works out its total sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep onset latency, and wake after sleep onset, as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine defines them. Each comes from the one recording with the most of that sleep, so a watch and a ring that both recorded the night count once. See Why Is My Sleep Counted Once When Two Devices Recorded It?

The Scores

  • The Sleep Regularity Index measures how consistently you sleep at the same times, from −100 to 100, over the 14 days before each sleep.
  • The Kaizora Sleep Score, from 0 to 100, scores the last 24 hours’ sleep: its duration, efficiency, regularity, and share of deep and REM sleep against your own baseline.

Each score’s page shows exactly how it was worked out. See Read a Score’s How It’s Calculated.
