What Trends Tell You

How Trends spot a change that stands out, such as weight down or less exercise, and why an ordinary week isn't listed.

Updated

Trends point out a change in your metrics that’s worth knowing about, such as “Weight down 1.2 kg in the last 7 days” or “Exercise Time 40% less than the 7 days before”. They’re on Home, across every metric, and on each area’s Overview, across its own.

What’s Compared

Trends compare rolling windows of days, in your time zone, not calendar weeks:

  • the last 7 days against the 7 before them;
  • the last 30 days against the 30 before them.

Each window counts only whole days, so today, still half over, doesn’t read as a drop.

A metric that adds up, such as steps, is compared by its total, and reads by what share it changed: “40% less”. One that’s averaged, such as weight, is compared by its average, and reads by how much: “down 1.2 kg”. Under each, a line gives the two windows’ values.

What Stands Out

A metric is listed only when its change is larger than it usually changes from one window to the next over the months before. Ordinary ups and downs aren’t news, and nor is a change that’s going on as it always has, such as your age. A metric with too little history isn’t judged at all.

Where a higher or a lower value is better, a trend is marked Better or Worse. Others, such as weight, are left unmarked.

What’s Left Out

Scores and air quality exposure aren’t listed: a score’s trend mostly repeats its inputs’, and exposure follows its readings.

Reading a Trend

Choose a trend to open its metric’s page, where its chart shows the change in context. Home reads Trends area by area and lists each as it arrives.
